Connect a Service to SlackBeta
Connect a service to Slack so people can ask it questions where they already work, without building an integration yourself. Each service can have one Slack connection.
About Channels
Channels let you make a service available in a chat app. You manage them in the Channels section at the top of a service's Connect tab.
Prerequisites
- A service with a published pipeline. For details, see Create a Service and Publish a Pipeline to a Service.
- Read and write permissions to services. Without write permission, the Slack actions are disabled. For details, see User Roles and Permissions.
- Permission to create and install apps in your Slack workspace.
Connect a Service to Slack
You create a Slack app for the service, install it in your Slack workspace, and paste its credentials into the platform. The platform prepares the app's configuration for you, so you don't have to set it up by hand.
- In Haystack Enterprise Platform, click Gateway in the navigation and open the service.
- Click Connect.
- In the Channels section, in the Slack row, click Connect Slack.
- Open the link to create the Slack app. Slack opens in a new tab with the app configuration already filled in. Confirm the app creation in Slack.
- Install the app in your Slack workspace.
- In Slack, copy the app's bot token and signing secret.
- The bot token starts with
xoxb-. If you paste a user token (xoxp-) or an app token (xapp-), the form shows an error before anything is sent. - Extra spaces around either value are removed for you.
- The bot token starts with
- Paste the bot token and the signing secret into the form.
- Click Connect.
Your credentials aren't saved until you click Connect and the connection succeeds. If you close the drawer with Cancel and click Connect Slack again later, you continue with the same Slack app link.
Disconnect Slack from a Service
Disconnect Slack when you no longer want the service to answer in your Slack workspace.
- Open the service and click Connect.
- In the Slack row, click Disconnect.
- Confirm the action in the confirmation prompt.
Troubleshooting
- The Slack row shows an error instead of actions: The platform couldn't load the Slack connection. Reload the page and try again.
- The actions are disabled: You need write permission for services. Ask your organization admin.
- The token is rejected: Use the bot token that starts with
xoxb-, and check that you copied the signing secret from the same Slack app.
What To Do Next
- Manage a Service for other tasks on the Connect tab, such as calling the service from your app.
- Gateway to learn how services work.
