Manage Fleet EnvironmentsBeta
Fleet environments let organization admins group services onto shared hosting infrastructure instead of giving each service its own isolated resources. Use fleet environments to reduce cost and simplify management when you have many similar services.
About Fleet Environments
By default, every service runs on its own isolated infrastructure. When you assign a service to a fleet environment, it shares infrastructure with other services in the same environment. This can lower cost for services with light or sporadic traffic, but it means the services in the environment share capacity.
Only organization admins can create, rename, and delete fleet environments. Any user who can configure a service's hosting settings can assign it to an existing fleet environment.
Prerequisites
- You must be an organization admin to manage fleet environments. For details, see User Roles and Permissions.
Create a Fleet Environment
- In Haystack Enterprise Platform, go to Settings > Organization Settings.
- Click Environments.
- In the add environment form at the bottom of the list, type a name for the environment.
- Confirm to create it.
The new environment appears in the list and becomes available in the Environment list wherever services choose their hosting.
Rename a Fleet Environment
- On the Environments tab, find the environment you want to rename.
- Click its name to edit it inline.
- Type the new name and confirm.
The new name is saved immediately and reflected wherever the environment is selectable.
Delete a Fleet Environment
- On the Environments tab, find the environment you want to remove.
- Click Delete next to it.
- Confirm the deletion in the dialog.
Deleting an environment does not delete the services assigned to it, but those services return to running on their own isolated infrastructure.
Assign a Service to a Fleet Environment
You can assign a fleet environment to a service when you create it, or later from its hosting settings.
- When creating a service, use the Environment list in the hosting section of the setup step. Own (isolated) is selected by default.
- For an existing service, go to its Settings, open the Hosting section, and use the Environment list. Changing the environment restarts the service, so confirm the warning banner before you save.
For more on service hosting settings, see Manage a Service.
